Will There Be A StarFox/Metroid Crossover Game On The WiiU?
A few days ago, Paul Gale Network (the same team that discovered a rumor about Playstation All Stars: Battle Royale) leaked a rumor that Nintendo hired Retro Studios to work on a crossover title for the WiiU that mixes the universe of Metroid with StarFox.
The game begins as the Starfox team explores a Meteos-like stage that eventually leads to them crashing into Samus’ ship. The stories of Fox McCloud and Samus Aran would intertwine while players experience both aerial and on-foot gameplay as both characters.
While playing as the Fox, the gameplay focuses mostly on the space battles the series is known for. Expect plenty of on-rails shooting and witty banter between members of the Starfox team. Eventually, Fox would explore the land on foot as he did in Starfox Adventures.
Samus’ gameplay is said to be in mostly first person. She would be completely isolated, stripped of her armor upon arrival, and she must traverse the planet to get it back. While trying to get it back, she must fight bosses and repair her ship. Eventually, Samus would fly her ship and gameplay would be similar to the Starfox games.
Nothing else is “known” about the game other than these pieces of information, which may or may not be true. Nintendo has yet to comment, and with E3 right around the corner, why would they? The buzz so far has been monumental.
Do you think it’s real? Do you think it will be great?
Typically, a new game coming out doesn’t require me to go through and play a previous title in order to feel as though I have properly gauged it according to its merits. However, since Star Fox 64 3D is in the same vein as Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, I felt as though it had to be weighed against the brilliance of the original title and compared respectively. This doesn’t normally apply to many remakes, but Nintendo being Nintendo operates a little differently when remaking many of their titles. This also led me to a few conclusions that both wowed and disappointed me.
