SEGA Faces $86.4 Million Losses, Layoffs And Cancelled Games To Be Expected

SEGA’s parent company, Sega Sammy, has stated that they face a loss of $86.4 million dollars in the fiscal year ending March 2012, and that sales were not up to par. The company states that it will be undergoing a “massive restructuring”, which inevitably means cancelled games and laid off employees.

Though the company still plans on releasing more Sonic, the upcoming Aliens: Colonial Marines, and future Total War games, there is expected to be more cuts to their portable gaming market and more to their home console software market as well. You might not be seeing SEGA willing to publish more obscure Japanese games like Resonance of Fate anymore, though SEGA has not specified exactly where and when these cuts will be made.

SEGA outlined a plan to cut forecast numbers in half for the next fiscal year and also to streamline organization through a smaller company in the NA and PAL territories to better sustain profitability. Only the future can really tell what’s in store for SEGA…

Aliens: Colonial Marines Delayed to Fall 2012

Looking forward to that spring release of Aliens: Colonial Marines? Well, you might wanna get a rain check. SEGA and Gearbox have announced the sci-fi FPS will be delayed to this fall.

While setting clear goals, deadlines and predictions is helpful, they are often subjective. We don’t want to sacrifice the creative process just for the sake of following a blue print. We prefer to have the creative discovery shape that blue print because our goal is to make a great game, and we are prioritizing this goal over the previously targeted date.” —statement to Game Informer

In any case, when the game launches it will be available on the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC.

New Trailer for Aliens: Colonial Marines

At E3 2011, Gearbox released a teaser trailer for Aliens: Colonial Marines (which has been in development since 2006) and now, a new trailer has arrived.

To be honest, this titleis actually looking very promising. The trailer (which was first uploaded to Gamespot) is being described as a “debut” trailer (It probably isn’t, but I’m assuming it is because the YouTube video has the title “Debut Trailer”).

Aliens: Colonial Marines is expected to launch Spring 2012 and will be available on the PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U, DS, and PC.
