RUMOUR: “Durango” Won’t Feature A Disc Drive
According to a new report from British trade magazine MCV, the next-gen Xbox (code-named Durango) will not sport a disc drive. A source close to MCV claims that Microsoft revealed this information say this is “the strictest NDA” they have ever encountered.
The source says that instead, the Durango will feature “some sort of interchangeable solid-state card storage, although it is not known whether it will be proprietary or a more standard format such as SD”. MCV also claims that the new console will have a 2013 release window.
In response to the report, Microsoft had this to say:

“We are always thinking about what is next for our platform and how to continue to defy the lifecycle convention. Beyond that we do not comment on rumors or speculation.”
